Introducing the new

Grant County Brass Choir

Mr. Bryan Crisp, Director

The Grant County Band Program is proud to begin its first brass choir.  This ensemble comes to us under the direction of Mr. Bryan Crisp, who will be directing this ensemble.  This is an elite group of advanced middle and high school musicians who have been given a recommendation to be a part of this experience.  This is an exciting opportunity!  Not all band programs are fortunate enough to have this experience offered to their students.

The purpose of this ensemble is to give our students the opportunity to learn how to play in smaller ensembles, focusing on key musical elements and technique such as intonation, balance, tone quality, musicality and performance.

Performance opportunities will include playing at our Spring Concert, Spaghetti Dinner, Solo and Ensembles and local churches in our area.   Students will receive a credit towards their Performance-Based Projects (requirement of achieving 4 performance opportunities).

The rehearsals will take place on Tuesdays, from 3:30-4:45 pm, in the middle school band room.  Students that participate will pay a monthly fee of $40 on the dates listed below.

ATTENDENCE AND PAYMENT POLICY:

Payment is due the dates listed above in the form of a check or cash.  The check must be made out to the GRANT COUNTY BAND BOOSTERS.  Students can either bring their checks to school and pay Mrs. Owens during the school day (either prior to the first Tuesday of the month or they can bring it to brass choir and give it to Mrs. Owens at that point).  Payments that are not made before the rehearsal begins will not be permitted to stay that afternoon.

Upon commitment, students are expected to be involved in brass choir for the rest of the school year (November-June).  If the student should want to quit before the end of the school year, there will be a $35 exit fee and no refund for the amount paid in advance.

REFUNDS:  No refunds will be made for students who terminate early.

If a week of brass choir is missed for any reason there will be no refund for the missed week.  Sessions missed without prior notice are automatically forfeited.

CANCELLATIONS:

Cancellations will only be excused for illness or death in the family.  These things do occur in which case 24 hours notice is expected for these cancellations.  Cancellations for any other reason will result in the forfeiting of that week with no make-up session.  Again it is essential that the parent or child communicate any day that they will miss for brass choir, before the beginning of the month.

TEACHER ABSENCES:

The teacher reserves the right to miss lessons due to illness or professional commitments.  Those weeks will be made up, or a credit issued.

 OFFICE HOURS:

The teacher will be unable to discuss student progress with parents before or after the session since other students have lessons at those times.  Parents should call or schedule an appointment with the teacher, if they have concerns or questions.  The most convenient time to reach the teacher is Tuesday-Friday 10:00 A.M.-Noon at 859-322-4811.  E-mail messages via bryan@bryancrisp.com are encouraged.  I do not answer the phone while I am teaching, but please feel free to leave a voicemail message.

WHO TO CONTACT IN CASE OF AN ABSENCE:

Parents must still contact Bryan Crisp if your child is not going to school that day and can not attend.  Even if it is an excused reason, HE MUST BE NOTIFIED.  This can change rehearsal plans and objectives for the day.

These policies will take effect on November 18th, 2008 (first brass choir rehearsal).  Please hand this agreement to Mrs. Owens NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14th.  Cut on the dotted line.  You can also send in your first check for November at that time.

Thanks again for your interest in the brass choir!  This will be an amazing time to make music together!
